What a day!! On the right is the charming rustic hotel we stayed in last night. Just perfect with old style rooms and a fixed menu that was just spot on: lentil soup, local pork in mustard sauce and creme brulet all for 14 euro each including drinks
Set off at 7.00 to walk 15 kilometres to Pajares in Asturias, real ski town with expensive chalets to book. It looked simple 2 big climbs to 1600 metres with a nice downhill to Pajares. Well the climb is hard but the views were amazing! After that we descended on reasonable tracks. Then the sky's darkened as the middle picture and the down pour started. As soon as it stopped climbed again to the Mirador cafe for coffee and tortilla and views over the ski slopes as in the middle picture. It was then we realised we could either descend to Pajares on a certain death busy road or by a very narrow track with loose stones and shale. The latter was chosen and I was terrified. Any wrong foot and you're down into the valley! John and Susie are keen hill walkers and gave me great advice. Just as I was feeling more confident, the heavens opened again. To cut a long story short, we made it to our accommodation and after a hot shower and drinking my body weight in Coke Zero, I feel human again.
